Here at Snowdrop Services we are looking forward to another year of paying all our team members and contractors the ‘Real Living Wage’, which is independently calculated every year. The hourly rate is much higher than the statutory minimum wage as it reflects the actual cost of living. It also applies to all workers aged over 18, whereas the full minimum wage only applies to workers aged over 25.
The Real Living Wage fits in with our company’s core beliefs of honesty, high standards and trustworthiness. We believe that paying a higher rate of pay breeds loyalty, reliability and attracts better and longer-term candidates. Our clients love that fact that we are a Living Wage Employer too!!
In the UK over 5 million (over 400,000 in Scotland) workers are paid below the real living wage so we are really proud to join over 6000 businesses in the UK that believe that a fair day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.
A real-life example is a worker paid the real Living Wage of £9.30 will earn £2,000 more a year than someone earning the UK Government minimum of £8.21 an hour – enough to cover nine months of a typical family’s food and drink bill.
If you are an employer considering paying the Real Living Wage here are some of the benefits we have seen:
- 0% turnover in staff/contractors
- Reduced absenteeism and increased productivity and moral
- Enhanced reputation with new and existing clients
